I don't think I've ever seen the (school) mastery spells come up for a multiclassed wizard, but your level 4 spells can also encompass things like 4th-level summons and useful domain abilities, and they can make a big contribution to your strategy. You also get the benefit of your specialisation if one of your cities with Halls of Enchantment or Enchanted Walls gets attacked - your mileage may vary on whether the unit enchantment for a sphere is better than Enchanted Weapon, but unless the attackers have resistance or immunity to your sphere's damage type and not to magic, the specialist's enchanted walls are probably a better defence.īut yes, as previous posters have said, the main disadvantage is loss of high level spells.

I think I read somewhere that being a specialist in an elemental school can also improve the gold you get from non-city gold structures associated with that sphere - fire wizards get a bonus from forges, air from windmills, watter from water mills, and earth from mines (Life and Death have modified relations with non-neutral races, which can be a double-edged sword, but ironically means that if you mismatch your race and sphere than the bonuses and penalties cancel and every race will at least tolerate you).
